题目：Unintended health risk of genetic modification: glyphosate-tolerant (GT) crop adoption, glyphosate use, and public health 

摘要：The public’s concern over the environmental and health impacts of glyphosate use has been growing as a result of its rapidly expanding use, driven by the increasing adoption of glyphosate-tolerant (GT) crops, in past decades. Despite the facts that some pathological and experimental studies have shown that glyphosate can have negative effects on animal health and glyphosate residues have been widely found in water and food system, only a surprisingly small number of studies have examined the health effects of glyphosate use on humans. Our study combines several county-level datasets and investigates the health impact of glyphosate use on the overall population. More specifically, using county-level data from the U.S. from 1992 to 2014, we estimate the effects of glyphosate use on mortality rates for various cancers, cardiovascular diseases, and chronic respiratory diseases using both FE estimation and IV estimation, where the adoption rates of genetically modified crops are used as the IV for glyphosate use. Our reults indicate that glyphosate accumulation in the U.S. is significantly associated with mortality rates of various types of cancers and chronic respiratory diseases, and the association is stronger among males. Our finding suggests that the non-neglectable adverse health impacts of glyphosate use, as a side-effect of the rapidly expanding GT crop adoption, should be addressed more in public policy.

方明

方明，密歇根州立大学农业、食品与资源经济系博士生，预计2023年毕业。他硕士（2015-2018）毕业于中央财经大学经济系，本科（2011-2015）毕业于西南财经大学数学与应用数学系。他的研究领域为农业经济学与发展经济学，已见刊的代表成果发表在《经济研究》、Journal of Food Distribution Research等国内外知名经济学期刊上，曾在AAEA等重要会议上报告文章。他的博士生导师是金松青教授，他的博士论文导师组成员还包括Christian Ahlin, Mywish Maredia, Matthew Gammans等教授。
