Dr Diane Payne is the Founder and Director of the Dynamics Lab (dl.ucd.ie) which is located at the UCD Geary Institute. She is the Head of School at the UCD School of Sociology (incoming September 2014). Dr Payne is also a Research Fellow associated with the UCD Complex and Adaptive Systems Laboratory (CASL). In 2008, she established and is currently the Academic Director for the successful UCD Thematic PhD Programme in Complex Systems and Computational Social Science: http://www.ucd.ie/graduatestudies/coursefinder/taughtprogrammes/phd-complex-systems/
Apart from these responsibilities, she is an active participant on a range of national and international committees for research and training in the social sciences, as well as at a senior level within the wider UCD including the School of Sociology and the UCD Geary Institute. Between 2004 and 2006, she was appointed Assistant Director, with responsibility for Graduate Programmes, at the UCD Geary Institute.
Prior to moving to UCD, Dr Payne managed the Masters in Social Sciences Degree Programme (Applied Social Research) in the Department of Sociology at the Trinity College, Dublin. She completed her PhD at the ICS, University of Groningen and also worked at the University of Cambridge where she co-authored with Leverhulme Research Professor Robert Bennett, a book and several papers on local and regional economic development in the United Kingdom
