30 Years of Economic Reforms in China:
Retrospect and Outlook

Jupiters Hotel

Townsville, Australia, 10-11 July 2008

Call for Papers

The Association for Chinese Economic Studies Australia (ACESA) in conjunction with the Centre for AusAsia Business Studies of the School of Business at James Cook University, the College of Economics and Management of China Agricultural University, and the journal of China and World Economy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences will jointly organise the ACESA's 20th Annual Conference in Townsville, Australia, 10-11 July 2008.

In late 1978 China’s economic reforms began. Over the past three decades, tremendous economic changes have taken place in China. From a country whose economy was on the brink of collapse to one of the major economies in the world today, China’s experience of economic growth provides a wealth of issues for academics, government policy makers and business personnel all over the world to think over. Hence, it is very opportune and most appropriate to hold an international conference to review, evaluate and outlook China’s economy in 2008, when China records its 30 years of economic reforms and developments. Thus the conference carries with the title: “30 Years of Economic Reforms in China: Retrospect and Outlook”.

Selected distinguished scholars and government officials, from China, Australia, North America and elsewhere, will be invited to deliver keynote addresses to the conference. A business breakfast or lunch has also been planned to particularly cater for the business community to update their knowledge on the Chinese economy and market.

We would like to invite all papers that review and evaluate China’s economic growth and development in the past three decades and outlook the Chinese economy into the future. Major conference topics include, but not limited to:

Economic growth and sustainability
Privatisation and marketisation in China
Resource demand and supply and long-term strategies
Environment, health and social costs of fast economic growth
Reforms in fiscal and monetary systems
Tourism industry’s development and outlook
Agricultural and rural development
Inward and outbound FDI
Globalisation of China’s businesses
WTO accession and trade reforms
Poverty and inequality alleviation

Interested participants should submit abstracts of no more than 250 words to cabs@jcu.edu.au by 15 March 2008. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their papers for presentation by 15 April 2008.
