The migration and its differentials in education in rural China: the evidence from 2000 population census data

Abstract: Using 2000 population census data, this paper documents the in-migration pattern into towns in three
provinces in China, Zhejiang, Henan, and Sichuan. Paper finds that a diversified patterns of migration. Furthermore, consistent with general findings in the migration literature that in-migrants generally possess higher level of educational attainment than those of general population. Thus, migration does bring in more highly-educated people into towns, which should boost towns development, especially in the western and middle regions.
